AFRITALS — Visual Identity & Exhibition Design

The visual concept of the exhibition translates this narrative into a spatial and graphic experience. The project was conceived as an immersive journey, structured around three different areas within the exhibition space, each representing a distinct perspective on the theme of human relationships and cultural bonds. Through visual communication, typography and spatial graphics, the installation guides visitors through a progressive reflection on identity, diversity and belonging.

Developed for the exhibition AFRITALS – A Cultural Synergy, the art direction and graphic design project interprets the theme of connection, identity and coexistence through a visual language that is both emotional and reflective. The exhibition was created within the OFF circuit of the photography festival dedicated to the theme “Legami. Intimacy, Relations, New Worlds”, exploring how personal and cultural bonds shape contemporary society. At the center of the project are the photographs of Giacomo Bruno, a young photographer from Reggio Emilia whose work combines travel, social observation and visual storytelling. His images portray young Afro-Italian men and women who live, work and grow within Italian society, individuals who embody a dynamic cultural dialogue between different origins and shared futures.

The graphic language balances clarity and expressive strength, allowing the photography to remain the central voice of the exhibition while reinforcing its cultural message. Colors, layout and visual rhythm are used to evoke the idea of interconnected worlds, emphasizing how diversity can generate growth, innovation and social richness.

Emotionally, the project aims to highlight the human stories behind the images. The portraits reveal individuals who contribute creativity, talent and energy to everyday life—artists, athletes, students and professionals whose experiences challenge stereotypes and counter narratives of intolerance and discrimination. The design therefore supports the photographs by creating an environment that encourages empathy and dialogue.

More than a photographic exhibition, AFRITALS becomes a visual reflection on coexistence: a project that celebrates cultural synergy and invites the audience to reconsider the meaning of identity in an increasingly interconnected society. Through art direction and design, the exhibition transforms photography into a space for awareness, conversation and shared understanding.
